Vital records are records of life events kept under governmental authority, including birth certificates, marriage licenses, and death certificates. The Santa Cruz County Recorder’s Office is the custodian of vital records in Santa Cruz County. If a birth or death occurred in this county, or the marriage license was issued in this county to be registered for the marriage certificate, our office can respond to requests for certified copies of these vital records.
If the birth or death occurred in another county, or the marriage license was issued in another county, please contact that County Recorder’s Office.

If no record is found based on the information provided in the application, a “Certificate of No Record” will be issued. Under state law, the Recorder’s Office must retain the non-refundable fee for processing the application.
